With the Vancouver Aquatic Centre closed, finding a replacement swim means checking more than the address of another pool. Lane length, lesson availability and the time you can get there all matter.

Hillcrest changes layout through the week

Hillcrest, at 4575 Clancy Loranger Way, has changed its schedule to accommodate demand during the closure. The City lists this configuration from September 8, 2026:

Hillcrest’s published weekly pool configuration
DayLayout
Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday50 metres
Tuesday and Thursday25-metre pools
SundayShallow pool, 25-metre lap pool and dive tank

The City lists Sunday diving-board and dive-tank access from 6 to 7 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lane availability varies within each day. The layout alone does not guarantee a lane or admission. Hillcrest notices and facility details · Live lane schedule

Other indoor options to check

These are starting points for comparing a trip and a swim session. They are not a complete directory or a count of spare capacity. Each facility page links to its pool schedule.

Alternative pools and practical limits, checked September 15
PoolWhat to check before leaving
Lord Byng
3990 West 14th Avenue
A 25-metre pool with lap lanes. The City currently reports its accessible pool lift is out of order. Confirm an entry arrangement that works for you if you need the lift.
Kerrisdale
5851 West Boulevard
A 30-metre pool with a diving board. Its pool lift is also listed as temporarily unavailable. Use the pool schedule, rather than the community centre’s opening hours.
Killarney
6260 Killarney Street
Lap swimming and leisure facilities. From September 9, the lengths pool opens at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, later than the leisure pool. The City warns that peak periods and weekends can mean longer entry waits.

For other neighbourhoods, start with the City’s pool directory. Check closure notices first, then look for the activity and date you want. A pool being open does not mean every lane, board or programme is available.

Lessons need a separate search

Lord Byng’s current page lists lessons for preschoolers, children and youth, while saying infant, toddler and adult lessons are unavailable there. Follow its registration link for the actual course listings and spaces. A facility description is not a live inventory. Lord Byng registration information

This guide uses the City’s published notices, checked September 15, 2026. Individual bookings and club allocations have not been confirmed. Families and club swimmers may need different arrangements from someone looking for a public length swim.
